Ed Alstrom has performed with Bette Midler, Chuck Berry, Leonard Bernstein, Herbie Hancock, Eddie Fisher, Dion, Larry Coryell, Zubin Mehta, Lou Rawls, Donald Fagen, Uncle Floyd, Al Kooper, Stanley Jordan, Levon Helm, and many other notables. He is currently Musical Director for Darlene Love, and also performing with Rob Paparozzi and the Hudson River Rats. He has recorded extensively, and Broadway experience includes “Leader Of The Pack” and Smokey Joe’s Café”. He also spent over 15 years with Casio, where he was Product and Marketing manager for the Keyboard Division, and helped design the keyboards and contributed much of the musical material that goes into them to this day. He is Westminster-trained church organist, too. Pianist/vocalist Ed Alstrom and his trio, featuring Jeff Ganz on bass and Don Guinta on drums, play a bewilderingly broad mix of tunes, accent on the acerbic and/or witty and the obscure/never before, all with a propensity for intensity. Anything’s fair game with these guys: Broadway, blues, R&B, cabaret, standards, classic rock, New Orleans, novelty items, be-bop, opera, quirky originals and whatever else they can bend to their own ends. Harnessing the cretinous energy of a biker bar band, the proficiency of jazzbos, and the intimacy of a cabaret act? Somebody’s gotta do it . . . |
