The NJCU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Ed Joffe has been performing music that spans the history of jazz-from Fletcher Henderson to Maria Schneider-for sixteen years. The band consists of students enrolled in the jazz performance degree offerings at New Jersey City University as well as alumni. Together, they have recorded five albums and performed at prestigious jazz venues such as the JVC Jazz Festival in New York, WBGO-FM and Birdland; at local clubs including Trumpets, Crossroads, and The Bayonne Arts Factory; and at music educator conferences as well as frequent on-campus concerts. The students benefit from studying with a faculty of world-class jazz artists and perform every semester with renowned jazz legends. Recent artists who have performed with the NJCU Jazz Ensemble include Joe Lovano, Marvin Stamm, Eddie Palmieri with Brian Lynch, Jimmy Heath, Peter Erskine, Eddie Daniels, and Toshiko Akiyoshi with Lew Tabackin.
