Join the Dalton Gang at their annual pre-Thanksgiving Bash at Trumpets!  Reservations highly recommended.

The Dalton Gang is a ten piece band led by guitarist, arranger and composer Willy Dalton. The band mixes jazz with a blend of funk and latin music.

The members are freelance musicians around the New York area. Among their credits are recordings and performances with such artists as Buddy Rich, Machito, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, Daniel Ponce, Cissy Houston, and others.

The Dalton Gang is a real “group,” not a band of musicians brought together for a special project. They performed for the first time in 1979 . They have performed over 100 original charts in the past 35 years.

The band members are: Vinnie Cutro— trumpet, Mark Friedman–alto sax and flute, Frank Elmo–tenor sax and flute,Dan Nigro— baritone sax, Conrad Zulauf— trombone, Frank Valdes–percussion, Mike DiLorenzo–piano, John Hughes–bass, Alessio Marc Cupo–drums, and Willy Dalton–guitar.

“The Dalton Gang is really a labor of love,” says bandleader Willy Dalton. “The dedication and commitment of the musicians is what keeps the band alive. When I write for the band, I try to draw on the mix of sounds that we play as working musicians in the New York area–jazz, funk, latin, big band, etc. Putting this all in one package and making the music challenging to play is what I’m aiming for.”

One of Trumpets’ favorite performers
Audiences love Mel Davis’ playing! R & B, Jazz & Contemporary! Come out and listen to one of the finest organists and entertainers around! R & B, jazz, blues, pop.. . Mel is one of our favorite artists. You may have heard him here before, but if you haven’t, stop by. You will love Mel whether you like traditional or contemporary jazz. He does it all! Scroll down to listen to one of his tunes.

Melvin Davis, recording artist, vocalist, keyboard player and organist extraordinaire, has understood the power of his hands to transport the sound of instruments from his imagination to a concert hall or nightclub full of eager twitching bodies for all of his life, dating back to childhood. This was when Melvin?s ears, residing in the multi-cultural city of Paterson, NJ, just 20 miles west of New York, dined on the sounds of musical greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Peggy Lee, John Coltrane, Jimmy McGriff, Alvin Valentine and so many more. He played his first piano recital at 9, and at 15, when cats his age were learning how to charm young ladies, Davis was sneaking into local night clubs, hoping to charm the Hammond B3.

The Hammond’s big band grooves, thanks to masters and club mentors such as George Benson, Larry Young, Jr., Brother Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff and Dr. Lonnie Smith, worked their way into Davis DNA. Eventually his hands were walking and talking good music. But 24 years ago, Davis lost the ability to play with his hands. Caught in the motorized belt of a fast-moving container-making machine where he worked to supplement his music income, a finger was ripped from his left hand, which was also split diagonally.

 Olivia Foschi with

John Ehlis Quartet
John Ehlis-guitar
Craig Yaremko-woodwinds
Marc Harris-  bass
Luis Manuel – percussion

“Foschi is today’s vocalist, blazing the trail for a new style of jazz vocals, not adhering to traditional sounds or rhythms, but appealing to a new generation of listeners, while still honoring jazz as a tradition. She is truly original and far from the norm as a composer and as a vocalist.” (H. Allen Williams, JazzTimes)

Since 2012, Foschi and Ehlis have performed together with a variety of creative musicians and artists including esteemed artists, bassist Chris White, and saxophonist Joseph Jarman. This special appearance showcase their individual and collective artistry with songs and compositions of their own own song, as well as arrangements of standards from the jazz repertoire.

Olivia Foschi was born in San Francisco and grew up in Italy. Although she always loved to sing, she discovered her passion for jazz while studying guitar and Theory of Music with Roy Zimmerman in high school. Her stylistic approach to singing shifted in 2001 when she was given the opportunity to study classical Nepali voice with established singer and composer Aavaas in Katmandu. This experience brought immense musical inspiration and left her eager to explore her voice paying particular attention to color and rhythm. After earning her B.A. in English Literature Cum Laude (John Cabot University, Rome, Italy, 2004), Olivia moved on to study jazz voice with Cecilia Izzi and nonverbal communication with Italian singer/songwriter Grazia DiMichele at the University of Music in Rome. She subsequently pursued undergraduate studies in jazz performance at the Music Academy in Bologna, 2006-2009.

Olivia was awarded first place at the vocal competition at the “Jazz Women in Blues Festival” (Naima Club, Forlì, Italy, 2009) obtaining a full scholarship to the Venice Voice Academy in L.A. for the 2010 summer-session. She moved to New York in the Autumn of 2010, studying mixed meter and polyrhythm with Marc Mommaas and voice with Fay Victor and Jeremiah Abiah.

Released this year, “Fleeting Windows” features Gil Goldstein, Alex Sipiagin, Yotam Silberstein, Billy Test, Daniel Dickinson, Joseph Doubleday, Marco Panascia, and Ulysses Owens, Jr. Her debut album entitled “Perennial Dreamer” was released in 2013 and produced by Ulysses Owens Jr. and features harmonica wizard Gregoire Maret.

Olivia has performed throughout the US and Europe, and has been featured on NPR in 2016-2018 on WPPB’s live broadcast: The Jam Session Radio Hour hosted by John Landes and Claes Brondal. Olivia teaches at the New York Jazz Workshop and continues to study classical Indian Konnakkol with Ganesh Kumar. She has recorded and shared the stage with Gil Goldstein, Chris White, Warren Smith, Joseph Jarman, Thurman Barker, Ulysses Owens Jr., Gregoire Maret, Alex Sipiagin, Mauricio Zottarelli, Helio Alves, Greg Skaff, Lou Caputo, Erik Lawrence, Stacy Dillard, and Yotam Silberstein among many others.

Montclair based guitarist John Ehlis is drawn to traditional and folk music from around the world, and has performed with artists ranging from saxophonists Oliver Lake and John Tchicai, to vocalists Marie Afonso, Loire Cotler, frame drum master Glen Velez, Argentine guitarists Juan Falu, Quique Sinesi, singer/songwriter Scott E. Moore, Basque musicians Kepa Junkera, Tapia and Leturria, Danish drummer Kresten Osgood, Finnish saxophonist Mikko Innanen and many others.

A dynamic performer on all saxophones, flutes and clarinets Craig Yaremko is a broad-minded-and-talented musician. He has performed alongside jazz artists Geri Allen, Helio Alves, Jerry Bergonzi, Don Braden, Paulo Braga, Randy Brecker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Candido, Jimmy Cobb, Paquito D’Rivera, and Ray Vega, as well as with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, New York City Symphony, and has backed-up such artists as Clay Aiken, Frankie Avalon, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis and Frankie Valli.

New York area bassist Marc Harris has been playing bass professionally since the early 1970’s. Through the 70’s & 80’s he toured North America, Europe and Japan playing with R&B, Caribbean and African music groups. Marc is also a master shipwright, having spent most of the 1990’s in the shipyards of Seattle. He spent the following decade in Hawaii where he played over 250 nights a year with various Hawaiian bands.

An avid percussionist, Luis Manuel has performed with the acclaimed Portuguese traditional band Companhia das Músicas, with the world music band Mary Sarah and the Elements of Return, and the Middle Eastern troupe Anka Kusu. He accompanies belly dancing classes and performances, and has worked with Manhattan Tribal, Touche, Audie, Dena, Gia and Trinity. Luis studied hand drums and rhythms with Attila Engin, Raquy Danziger, Carmine GuidaFaisal Zedan and Amir Naoum Chehade
