One More Once Big Band

One More Once” is an 18-piece big band consisting of some of North Jersey’s top musicians. John Molloy and Joe Verderese founded the band early in 2008. The band, currently led by Joe and Tim Hayward is based out of Clifton/Nutley, NJ.  The group was put together in an effort to have a new group who share a love of jazz and want to keep the great music of our past alive, while adding flavors of some more contemporary big band sounds. The group presents music from all different eras and styles, with music ranging from the big band era of Glenn Miller and Count Basie to Stan Kenton, Thad Jones and Maynard Ferguson favorites, as well as playing contemporary music from composers within the band and other writers.

Through the years, “One More Once” has performed at concerts, fundraisers, school functions, corporate parties and town events throughout the North Jersey area, including a monthly event at Trumpets Jazz Club which features opening acts from local schools and world renowned guest artists such as: Gabriel Alegria, Eric Alexander, Carl Allen, Robby Ameen, Paul Bollenback, Ralph Bowen, Don Braden, Cecil Bridgwater, Ronnie Cuber, Vinnie Cutro, Kenny Davis, Steve Davis, Dave Demsey, Denis Diblasio, Jon Faddis, Bob Ferrel, Joel Frahm, Matt Gallagher, Wycliffe Gordon, Mark Gross, Slide Hampton, Antonio Hart, Freddie Hendrix, Conrad Herwig, Vincent Herring, Jim Hynes, Ingrid Jensen, Jeff Kunkel, Mike Lee, Pete McGuinness, Rufus Reid, John Riley, Claudio Roditi, Gary Smulyan, Marc Stasio, Dave Stryker, Steve Turre,  Walt Weiskopf and Bruce Williams.

One More Once is grateful to Angela Guerriero & St. Paul’s Church in Nutley, NJ for hosting our monthly rehearsals for the past few years.

Trumpets Jazz Club is proud to welcome back Jazz Vocalist & Pianist sensation Diane Marino and her 8 piece group to perform the music of her critically-acclaimed new release, “Soul Serenade – The Gloria Lynne Project. Diane will also perform selections from her previous CDs, including songs from The Great American Song Book, Jazz Standards and Brazilian Jazz.

Featuring:

Diane Marino: Piano/Vocals
Don Aliquo: Tenor Sax
Ron Aprea: Alto Sax
Brian Pareschi : Trumpet
Rick Faulkner: Trombone
Doug Munro: Guitar
Frank Marino: Bass
Neal Smith: Drums

M&M Records Recording Artist Diane Marino has recorded six CDs, all of which have received widespread airplay and critical acclaim. She has recorded and shared the stage with jazz legends Houston Person, Ralph Lalama, Joe Henderson, Wycliffe Gordon, Harry Allen, Pete Escovedo, Tania Maria, Kirk Whalum, pop music icon Felix Cavaliere and many others.

“Diane Marino is an unusually unique talent- great pianist, vocalist and arranger”– Les Davis-Real Jazz-Sirius/XM

“Diane’s personal style provides the ultimate in cool for jazz listeners of all stripes. Her pacing is pure perfection, and her tones are full of the energy of life…A superb jazz vocal (“Soul Serenade-The Gloria Lynne Project) that you will treasure for years to come”. Dick Metcalf, Contemporary Fusion Reviews- 3/8/2018

“A striking vocalist, Diane Marino chooses songs that bring out the emotional depth of her register. Her inflections make lyrics stand out in the listener’s mind”. Susan Franceson- Blog Critics, 3/22/2018

“Marino has an exceptional ability to enunciate a lyric clearly, and her timing fits that of a piano player, making the note hit just the right place for the most swinging effect” ‐ Jazz Weekly.com

“Diane plays grooving piano, and as for Diane’s vocal skills, she’s one of the best I’ve heard in the past several years. Her voice and phrasing are great” – Ric Bang – Jazz Scan

Artist Links

While performing on a recent gig with drummer Vince Ector (Gloria’s drummer for 15 years), I sang ‘I’m Glad There Is You’, and he reminded me it was one of Gloria’s signature songs,” explained Marino. “So, I began to research more of Gloria’s work and was instantly mesmerized by her voice, style and emotion. Additionally, her choice of material was instantly appealing to me. I tend to look for songs that are “beyond the norm” of the Great American Songbook repertoire. The songs Gloria Lynne recorded during her career stand alone in their originality and uniqueness. Her performances of these particular tunes move me every time I hear them.”

Diane was born in Manhattan, NYC. She started her early piano training of classical studies and jazz improvisation from the age of 10. Diane graduated from NYC’S ‘Famed’ High School for the Performing Arts and  later received her B.M. degree from Mannes College of Music in Manhattan as a piano performance major where she studied piano with world-renowned concert pianist Murray Perahia.
