Christian McBride

Christian McBride is one of the most sought-after jazz performers on the scene today. Grammy-winner Christian McBride brings his talented “A Christian McBride Situation” to the bandstand at Trumpets Jazz Club for a rare New Jersey one-night only performance. Christian McBride is a chameleonic virtuoso of the acoustic and electric bass. The mastery of composition and arranging, coupled with his flair for improvisation and spontaneous creation, makes Christian McBride possibly the most seasoned and adaptable musician in jazz with an unprecedented ability to cross into other genres. With over 250 recordings to his credit and an amazing career which includes a virtual who’s who in music including Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Sting, Pat Metheny, Queen Latifah, Bruce Hornsby, Kathleen Battle, McCoy Tyner, Ricky Skaggs, Chick Corea and Diana Krall to name a few. The most awe-inspiring thing about McBride is that his prowess as a player is only half of what makes him such a respected, in-demand and mind-bogglingly busy individual.

Adding to his talents is his role of bandleader. For his Trumpets debut McBride will be accompanied by longtime band mate the propulsive and exciting Ron Blake on saxophones and flute, young rising star pianist Danny Grissett, and acclaimed drummer and Interim Artistic Director of Jazz Studies at Julliard Carl Allen. All stars with singular voices, McBride’s cohorts have all paid their dues and eagerly a wait the evening to perform together.

In addition to McBride’s impressive recording and performing career, he is active in the education arena as well providing master classes, residencies and workshops at colleges, jazz camps and community art centers across the US. McBride’s portrait is completed by a mere-mid-thirty something man who carves out time from his demanding schedule to hold the prestigious posts as co-director of The Jazz Museum in Harlem, Artistic Director at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass summer program and the Creative Chair for Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl and Disney Hall.

There have been very few artists who truly embody the genuine, heart-felt passion for music in all areas as has Christian McBride. By boldly continuing to leave his mark in areas of musical performance, composition, education and advocacy for the arts, McBride is destined to be a force in music for decades to come.
