Singer-songwriter, classically trained pianist, composer and dancer, Petrina represents a unique case in the Italian scene, synthesizing in a visionary style her oblique and sensual songwriting with the experimentations of pop-rock, electronics, avant-garde and jazz.
Appreciated and encouraged by David Byrne, who has often aired her songs in his radio playlists of favorites, she is equally at home in a rock format as well as in a modern-contemporary concert setting. She has also recomposed a piece by John Cage transforming it into a voice/piano song, Roses of the Day, which is now published worldwide by Edition Peters (Cage’s publisher) with the double name Cage/Petrina.
She has recorded three albums with her songs, and one solo album covering with voice and piano different jazz standards, pop tunes and art songs. She has also took part in a jazz album with Paolo Fresu and some of the most famous Italian jazz players for l’Espresso/La Repubblica (main Italian newspaper).
Beyond that, she has recorded in the United States and in Europe three albums of premieres by Morton Feldman and Sylvano Bussotti.
She has collaborated with David Byrne, John Parish, Elliott Sharp, Jherek Bischoff, Mike Sarin, Nicholas Isherwood, Paolo Fresu, Mario Brunello, Sylvano Bussotti, Tiziano Scarpa, Roberto Citran, performing in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Washington, London, Berlin, Koln, Madrid, Strasbourg, Tokyo and Osaka.
Coming from the DC Jazz Festival in Washington she will present her latest album, Be Blind, in an acoustic/solo version, only piano and voice.
