The John Gatti Trio, featuring Wayne resident John Gatti on keyboards and vocals, Wyckoff’s Bob De Caro on drums and Rutherford’s Jeff Gellis on upright and electric bass, will return to legendary jazz club Trumpets in Montclair to perform two sets on Friday, August 14, at 8 and 10 p.m. In what may be their final appearance while Gatti produces his third full-length CD, the trio will be playing Gatti’s original compositions as well as crowd-pleasing jazz and R&B classics.

A frequent performer in the northern NJ music scene for over three decades, John Gatti has composed, arranged and performed solo as well as featured in popular groups such as Truth, The Good Rats, and Grover Kemble and ZaZuZaz. In 2002 Gatti released “Life Lines, Heart Lines”, his first CD of original compositions, and in 2011 debuted his first jazz CD, “Destinations,” widely played and enthusiastically reviewed around the world. Gatti’s high-energy music makes use of many jazz elements, including Latin rhythms, funk and compelling melodies. His vocals do justice to tunes that require both sentiment and power.

Bob DeCaro of Wyckoff played drums in rock bands from his teenage years. He co-founded the innovative band, “Truth”, in 1969 and played with John Gatti in this group from 1969 to 1978.

Jeff Gellis of Rutherford, is a jazz, rock and classical musician skilled in the electric bass guitar and upright double bass. He was on the road performing with Blood, Sweat and Tears for many years.

Owned by Italian harmonica player Enrico Granafei and his partner Kristine Massari since 1999, Trumpets Jazz Club and Restaurant has been a North Jersey institution for 30 years, featuring some of the most respected jazz musicians in the world, including Gato Barbieri, Wynton Marsalis, Bucky Pizzarelli, Marlene VerPlanck and Dave Valentin. Trumpets is located at 6 Depot Square at the corner of Walnut Street in Montclair (parking at the train station). There is a $15 per person music charge and two-drink minimum. Trumpet’s offers a full bar and dinner menu. Call 973-744-2600 for reservations (strongly recommended). Groupon discount tickets may be available online.
