Opening Band – New Jersey CIty University Big Band, Directed by Gabriel Alegria
One More Once” is an 18-piece big band consisting of some of North Jersey’s top musicians. Currently co-directed by Joe and Tim Hayward, the One More Once is based out of Clifton/Nutley, NJ. The ensemble was put together in an effort to have a new group who share a love of jazz and want to keep the great music of our past alive, while adding flavors of some more contemporary big band sounds. The group presents music from all different eras and styles, with music ranging from the big band era of Glenn Miller and Count Basie to Stan Kenton, Thad Jones and Maynard Ferguson favorites, as well as playing contemporary music from composers within the band and other writers.
One More Once prides itself on their versatility and ability to create a unique performance for a variety of unique concepts. Through the years, they have delivered a cocktail hour pianist, contemporary rock duo, Dixieland trio, Rock band with up to 5 horns, herald trumpets, holiday sextet, and of course our “bread and butter,” the full big band. In addition to their standard jazz literature, One More Once has ventured into the realm of past and present pop and rock music to accommodate the contemporary dancing crowd. Songs from their repertoire include music from artists such as Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Chicago, Brian Setzer and Alicia Keys. The band is available with a female and male vocalist which can include the aforementioned, as well as the sounds of Sinatra when requested.
Through the years, “One More Once” has performed at concerts, fundraisers, school functions, weddings, dinner/dance parties and town events throughout the North Jersey area, including a monthly event at Trumpets Jazz Club which features opening acts from local schools and world renowned guest artists.
One More Once is grateful to the Athenia Veterans Hall in Clifton for allowing us to rehearse at their hall for 5 years and to St. Paul’s Church in Nutley, NJ for taking us in the past few years for our rehearsals. We would also like to thank Trumpets Jazz Club for serving as our home base for our “Students of Jazz” program since 2012.
