Houston Person

A popular figure of the warm-toned tenor saxophone, Houston Person has entertained audiences in clubs and concert halls since the 1960?s. He carries to listeners a full-melodic sound in the tradition of Coleman Hawkins, Illinois Jacquet and Gene Ammons. His forte has been playing in blues-oriented organ groups. A full-bodied style he perfected as a member of Johnny Hammond?s group.
While stationed in Germany he had the opportunity to work in jazz groups with such notable musicians as, Eddie Harris, Cedar Walton and Lanny Morgan. Following service in the United States Air Force, Houston Person further developed his musical abilities studying at South Carolina State College and Hart College of Music in Hartford.
This recording star has over 75 albums under his name and has appeared on countless with other artists. In the early 1970s Houston teamed with vocalist Etta Jones and they created a special magic, making beautiful music together for 31 years thrilling audiences all over the world.
