Matt Jardim earned a B.A. in performance from Rutgers University in 1985 where he studied with renowned jazz guitarists Ted Dunbar and Kevin Eubanks. He has performed with such jazz luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Burrell, Terence Blanchard, Slide Hampton and James Moody as a member of the award-winning Rutgers University Jazz Ensemble. Matt received a masters in music education in 2002 from New Jersey City University where he studied classical guitar from Dr. Ana Marie Rosado.
Matt can be heard on several recordings as a leader and sideman including The Matt Jardim Trio, A Long Time Ago on the Select label in 1990 with the alternative rock group Amok Time, I?m Feelin? It by percussionist Oloye Ifa Karade and Laid Back Pump by keyboardist Richard Banks. For the last few years, Matt has performed regularly with his own duo at Aquaviva Delle Fonti Restauarant in Westfield and currently at Brooklyn Pizza in Cranford.
In 1991, Matt began teaching instrumental music in the public schools starting in Jersey City and Elizabeth and moving onto to his current position as stringed instrument instructor for the Mountain Lakes School district. Matt has accumulated 16 years of experience teaching guitar classes and ensembles. His acclaimed guitar ensembles have performed at teen arts festivals in Union and Morris county in New Jersey as well as at the Kids in Concert program at the State Theater in New Brunswick. Matt has also taught privately and at the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts in Westfield.
