Matt McDonald Group

Guitarist and composer Matt McDonald has lived in the New York/New Jersey area since 1997.  At the age of 18 he left his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to get closer to New York and to attend William Paterson University in New Jersey, which has been called one of the finest jazz performance studies programs in the world.  While at WPU he studied with Vic Juris, Gene Bertoncini, Paul Meyers, James Williams, Rufus Reid, and Ben Monder. 
In New York he has performed with a variety of acclaimed musicians and artists including Kenny Wollesen, Tony Scherr, Jonas Mekas, Jesse Harris, Butch Morris, Richie Cole, and Ed Schuller.  Matt began performing regularly with Kenny Wollesen’s band Himalayas in 2005, which performed at the Villisau Jazz Festival in 2007.  For most of the year 2006 he lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina and played frequently at Thelonious Club with drummer Eloy Michelini and bassist Jer
