This Thursday Evening Montclair saxophonist Mike Lee brings a special
quartet to Trumpets in Montclair. Billy Hart and Ugonna Okegwo are
two of the most sought after jazz musicians on the scene today. Rounding
out the group will be Swiss pianist Jean-Paul Brodbeck. This promises
to be an exciting evening of creative music. Special guests will
feature as well. Mike Lee is known in the Montclair area for his work
with Jazz House Kids, as leader of the Cecil’s Big Band, and as the
saxophonist for “New Tricks,” an internationally touring quartet which
he co-leads with trumpeter Ted Chubb. Lee came to prominence in the
world of jazz for his performances with Joe Lovano, The Woody Herman
Orchestra, Maria Schneider, and TS Monk among others. Lee’s two sons,
saxophonist Julian and drummer Matthew, have already gained
recognition as performing artists in their own right and will join in
the festivities for Thursday’s performance.
