Soul Sunday a Special Tribute to Lou Rawls

Soul Sunday a Special Tribute to Lou Rawls and remembering Montclair resident John D. Brewington
Starring International Jazz, Soul, R & B Artist Nicolas Bearde
Jazz Recording Artist and songwriter, Nicolas Bearde blends jazz, rhythm and blues and pop as he takes you on a musical journey. A founding and current member of Bobby McFerrin’s renowned vocal ensemble, “Voicestra” for over two decades, Nicolas has been long recognized as an adept and fearless improviser. A seasoned and highly respected showman on stage, Bearde is masterful at drawing his audiences into his performance. In addition to his high-profile role with McFerrin’s innovative a cappella group, Nicolas has carved out a remarkable solo career in his own style, and made a notable contribution to the rhythm and jazz world with his dynamic quartet, ” The Right Groove.”
Bearde has been compared to vocal icons like Al Jarreau, Lou Rawls, Donny Hathaway, and Jon Lucien, but such comparisons fail to capture his vocal artistry or do justice to his musical accomplishments on record or in performance. “He’s a breath of fresh air amidst a mass of polluted ozone-unfriendly pop,” declared Blues and Soul magazine in the U.K., where Bearde’s music has been accorded an especially enthusiastic reception and where he placed high on the list of Best Male Newcomers in the publication’s 1998 poll. He has worked steadily with an array of artists from Patti Austin, Michael Bolton and Janis Siegel to McFerrin, John Handy, & Chris Camozzi, and he’s cut three albums for “Right Groove Records”, his own imprint. The first, 1998’s “Crossing the Line”, the 2005 follow-up “All About Love” and 2008’s “Live at Yoshi’s – A Salute to Lou”, which was recorded live at YOSHI’s – Oakland, California’s famed jazz club. His live shows garner a wide audience who appreciate his musical vision and savor his exceptional skills. Bearde also maintains a busy sideline as an actor for stage, screen, and television and as a voice-over artist.
