Sue Giles

Armed with a full palette and range of vocal colors, Sue Giles swings, scats and woos with a lush, playful, sweet and heartfelt voice in the tradition of Ella, Sarah and Dinah. ?She’s a singer to watch: at turns girlishly effervescent and womanly soulful, but also an entertainer who reaches to grab the audience by the lapels and pull.” She has performed with emerging pianists Art Hirahara; Michael Eckroth; Dr. Philip Strange, Champiann Fulton and Helen Sung; bassists Pat O’Leary, Noriko Ueda and Jason Fraticelli. She has also performed in a number of New York’s notable clubs – Arturo’s, Small’s, The Blue Note; Iridium, and in Eastern Europe (Montenegro); in Japan at Jazz Club BIRD and AZUL, and at the Cape May Jazz Festival in Cape May, New Jersey. In addition to supporting her growing family as a working mother, Ms. Giles is an advocate for youth in arts education and currently serves as school director for the Trenton Community Music School in Trenton, NJ. Her 2009 international performances include spring and fall tour dates in Japan; a tribute concert in Moscow, Russia and Tbilisi, Georgia honoring the legacy of Ella Fitzgerald; the New Jersey Heritage Day Festival; and at Concerts On The Landing at the Trenton War Memorial. Ms. Giles is currently writing a musical on the early life of Ella Fitzgerald and her relationship with bandleader Chick Webb and their early days at the Savoy Ballroom. She is extremely proud to be recording her third CD of new original jazz standards and holiday music, celebrating Christmas and her father’s memory. This CD is scheduled for release on September 15, 2009.
