The Erica Seguine/Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra

The Erica Seguine/Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra is an 18-20 piece jazz orchestra that performs music by its leaders Erica (conductor) and Shannon (saxophones/woodwinds,) as well as charts by other members of the band. Their music tells stories from the simple (about a snow storm) to the absurd (about Ed Wood?s travels to a beach.) They have performed at venues such Somethin? Jazz Club (Miles Cafe) and the Shea Auditorium.
Seguine is a composer/arranger/pianist who has won awards such as 1st Place in the International Zurich Jazz Orchestra Composition Competition and a 2011 ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award. Her music has been performed by her own groups and the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, Todd Coolman?s Quintet, the Eastman Jazz Ensemble and Studio Orchestra, Bernie Williams and the William Paterson Jazz Orchestra, Weapons of Jazz Destruction, amongst others. In the past she co-lead her own jazz orchestra in the Albany area, playing at venues such as The Linda (WAMC Performing Arts Studio) and the Schenectady Muddy Cup in the Proctor?s Theatre Arcade. She received a BM in Jazz Writing at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Bill Dobbins and Harold Danko, and received an MM in Jazz Arranging at William Paterson University, studying with Jim McNeely and Rich DeRosa.
Baker is a composer/arranger/saxophonist/woodwind player who has performed in the Tampa and Jacksonville areas for years, leading her own groups and playing as a sideman. She has also played in the NYC area at venues such as the 5C Cafe, The Shrine, the now defunct Puppets Jazz Bar, and Somethin? Jazz Club (Miles Cafe.) She received her BM at the University of North Florida, studying with Bunky Green and Laura Dwyer, and her MM in Jazz Arranging at WIlliam Paterson University, studying with Jim McNeely, Rich DeRosa, Cecil Bridgewater, and Rich Perry.
