The Rudy Walker Ensemble

When I first started playing drums around age 7 or 8, I had no idea that they would become my life…my passion.
I do know that I loved playing and it seemed natural to me. Music of all kinds, especially drumming, exited me. I became a jazz drummer because of drummers like Billy Brooks, Art Blakey, Eddie Gladdin, Lionel Hampton, Popa Joe,
Philly Joe, Billy Higgins and so many other great Jazz drummers who made me feel good when I saw and heard them play. I became an African drummer because of drummers like Mongo, Willie Bobo, Olatungi, Ladi Camara, Chief Bey, Les Ballet African, Souleymane Diop and Obara Wali Rahman…my first African drum teacher.
