Vito di Modugno (organ)

  Organist/bassist/pianist Vito Di Modugno, native of Bari, Italy,  studied piano, organ, electric and upright bass from a young age under his father, well-known accordionist Pino Di Modugno. Vito’s first public performance was at age five, and in 1973 he had his official debut in his father’s orchestra.
He toured with Patty Pravo from 1996-99, recording both a CD and DVD. In his own name, he has recorded, on Red Records,  the CDs “Organ Grooves” (I and II), “Bedouin“, “Paradoxa“. “Musica Jazz” magazine in 2003 voted him one of the finest young talents in their “Top Jazz” contest. In July 2006 he performed as soloist, with the ?Arturo Toscanini? Symphony Orchestra of Parma directed by  Beppe D?Onghia, the Concerto for jazz combo and orchestra of the “Deep Purple” by organist Jon Lord.
In 1976 he began his study of piano with Binetti and received his diploma in 1984. The same year, he won the “Italian Pianist Cup” competition. He pursued further studies in advanced piano with Medori and Caporali;  jazz seminars with Michael Brecker and Pat Metheny, and lastly, the courses at Siena Jazz.In June 2007, the Italian jazz magazine Musica Jazz featured him in a two-page article/interview, “Jazz in Italy”.He teaches in Bari at the  Pentagramma and Piccinni Conservatories.
